A buyout clause was at the centre of Romelu Lukaku’s contract blow up with Everton.

The People says Lukaku pulled out of contract talks this week over a planned £100million buy-out clause.

Belgium international striker Lukaku was unhappy with the level of compensation the Toffees wanted for him, in the event of an offer landing on the table at Goodison Park.

And so the decision was taken to withdraw from a deal that was “99.9 per cent” certain of being completed.

It is understood Chelsea are leading the chase for the striker – a sign that boss Antonio Conte will lose their No1 striker Diego Costa this summer.
